Malibu has a high reputation for a reason – it truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth. With gorgeous beaches, fine dining, coastal architecture, and perfect weather, a beach day in Malibu is a must. Will and I took advantage of the sunshine and had a perfect day in paradise.
Our Beach Day in Malibu
We started off by having lunch at Broad Street Oyster Company. They have delicious lobster rolls and some of the best raw oysters I’ve had in California. This place is very popular and can take 30-45 minutes to receive your food no matter what time of day it is. But the food is worth the wait!
El Matador Beach
We then drove to El Matador Beach. There is a pay-to-park lot, but it fills quickly. There is free parking along the Pacific Coast Highway for overflow. This beach is unique because the cliffside is right next to the Pacific Ocean. There are also breathtaking rock formations that create coves that are fun to explore. You have to walk down a few flights of stairs to get to the actual beach, but it is nothing too difficult. I recommend this beach for couples and families.
Point Dume Cove Trail
After an afternoon at El Matador Beach, we drove to Point Dume Cove Trail to catch the sunset. We parked on a residential street nearby (for free). This clearly marked trail is located at the top of a cliff and has panoramic views of the ocean and beyond. Will and I sat on our beach blanket and watched the gorgeous sunset transform into rich golden hues. Down below, seals were sunbathing on ocean rocks. In the distance, Will and I saw more than thirty dolphins in a twilight feeding frenzy. It was very romantic to be curled up under the blanket watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon.
Dinner
We ordered some pizza to-go from Spruzzo Restaurant & Bar. Their Fresh Summer pizza was a really good twist on the classic Margherita pizza. They have an expansive outdoor area with ocean views for dinning in as well.
I strongly recommend a trip to Malibu. Whether you’re tanning on the beach or sipping pinot noir at a local winery, all your worries will disappear. This coastal city truly captures the laid-back, sunny vibe of Southern California.
