On our road trip from Joshua Tree, we made a detour to Salvation Mountain. This manmade mountain is covered in a half million gallons of latex paint. Color lovers rejoice! Over the last 28 years, this small dirt monument transformed into the huge complex that you see today. We have artist Leonard Knight to thank for this unique, artistic place.
“I painted the mountain because I love God and I love people.” -Leonard Knight
Because Salvation Mountain is at such an isolated location in the middle of the desert, it is out of the way of almost everything. But the extra time in the car was worth it as the colors and sculptures were unlike anything I’d ever seen. There are many tunnels and walkways at Salvation Mountain, but they were unfortunately closed when we visited due to heavy rain. We still had a really fun time taking in the scenery and snapping some pictures though, as you can see.
